Golf

For golfers, the area around Loch Lomond is truly something special. This corner of Scotland sits within one of the world’s great golfing landscapes. Whether you’re a low handicapper chasing a bucket-list round or simply looking to enjoy a relaxed afternoon in beautiful surroundings, there’s a course here to suit you.

Loch Lomond Golf Club
The name speaks for itself. Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, Loch Lomond Golf Club opened in 1993, with Weiskopf describing it as his “lasting memorial to golf.” A former host of the Scottish Open, it is widely regarded as a modern classic. Beautifully manicured fairways and greens are set against dramatic mountain backdrops, with glimpses of the loch opening into breathtaking panoramas that elevate every hole. Measuring around 7,100 yards from the back tees, this parkland course is consistently ranked among the finest in the world.

The challenge, however, is access. Loch Lomond is one of the most exclusive courses in Scotland, and securing a round typically requires playing with a member. Occasionally, charity events offer rare opportunities for non-members—well worth watching for. If the chance arises, it’s not one to pass up.

The Carrick at Cameron House
For those seeking a world-class Loch Lomond experience without the need for membership, The Carrick is an excellent alternative. This stunning 18-hole championship course blends Highland scenery with strategic design, featuring rolling terrain, well-placed bunkers, and the loch itself as a spectacular natural hazard. With five tee options, it caters to golfers of all abilities. The course has hosted events such as the Ladies Scottish Open, the PGA Cup, and the EuroPro Tour. Notable elevation changes create unforgettable views, particularly from the 10th and 14th holes.

To round out the experience, Cameron House also offers the Wee Demon, a 9-hole course alongside the main layout, as well as a pro shop, professional tuition, and excellent clubhouse dining—ideal for a full day of golf.

Buchanan Castle Golf Club, Drymen
For a more relaxed but equally rewarding round, Buchanan Castle Golf Club is one of the area’s hidden gems. Owned by the Duke of Montrose, this welcoming parkland course sits in the foothills of the Highlands near Loch Lomond. Designed by James Braid in 1936, it features tree-lined fairways that can challenge even confident golfers. Set on the plain of the River Endrick, the course offers superb views of Ben Lomond, the surrounding Highlands, and the Luss Hills.

Open to visitors and reasonably priced, it provides a friendly atmosphere along with a clubhouse bar and dining room—perfect for unwinding after your round. Practice facilities include a driving range, short game area, 5-hole academy course, and grass practice zones, all available to non-members.

A Note on the Wider Area
The wider Loch Lomond region is rich in golfing options. Within a 30-minute drive, you’ll find over 20 courses, and the nearby Glasgow area boasts more than 90. It’s easy to plan a full golf break without repeating a single course.

Closer to Ardlui, Strathendrick Golf Club offers a scenic 9-hole layout on the banks of the River Endrick, with striking views of Ben Lomond and the Campsie Hills. It’s particularly well regarded for its course condition and presentation.

For tee times and bookings, it’s best to visit each club’s website or contact them directly to check availability and visitor green fees before travelling.
