Woodland walks

One of the best parts of staying at a Harrison Holiday Park is access to all the walking and cycling trails located nearby. From relaxing family walks to more strenuous mountain hikes, Harrison Holiday Parks are the ideal place for exploring on foot. In this blog we will explore each of our favourite woodland walking areas within a short distance of a selection of our holiday parks.

Percy Wood Country Park

Percy Wood Country Park is the perfect destination if you and your family want to explore the woods amongst the countryside of Northumbria. Not only is the park located very close to Alnwick Castle where Harry Potter was filmed, but the park even has its own 18-hole golf course. You’ll certainly never run out of outdoor activities and places to explore when staying at Percy Wood Country Park.

Thrunton Woods

Thrunton Woods is a hidden gem that’s just a short drive away from Percy Wood Park. This extensive forest offers a network of well-maintained trails catering to various skill levels. As you explore these ancient woodlands, you’ll come across tranquil streams and ponds, and a diverse range of plants and wildlife. Thrunton Woods is a haven for birdwatchers too, with the opportunity to spot species like woodpeckers, crossbills and even red squirrels.

Rawcliffe Hall Holiday Park

The historic Rawcliffe Hall Holiday Park mansion dates all the way back to 1153 A.D. and is the perfect place to start your adventure in Lancashire. When on-site, you and your family can explore the historic grounds and experience the new playpark and adventure trail.

Beacon Fell Country Park

When venturing off-park, the Beacon Fell Country Park is an unmissable, beautiful expanse of woodland. The park consists of 110 hectares of varied woodland, moorland and farmland. If you look carefully, you may see a variety of wildlife including rabbits, hares, roe deer, stoats and weasels. During the summer months you can see several different species of damselflies and dragonflies darting across the ponds. For those interested in stargazing, the site has also been awarded the prestigious Dark Sky Discovery Site designation.

Wild Rose Holiday Park

Wild Rose Holiday Park sits in the heart of the picturesque Cumbrian Eden Valley, between the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District. The perfect spot for families looking for a rural retreat in the countryside. The facilities at Wild Rose are certainly of a high standard, with a brand new indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool complex and Coast & Country Bar and Restaurant. Just next to the bar and lounge is the perfect spot on-site for the kids to explore our outdoor play area with swings, slides and stunning views over the countryside.

Flakebridge Wood

There are so many incredible woodland walks in the close vicinity to Wild Rose, it was very difficult to choose a favourite. However, Flakebridge Wood is a very special location located just 6 miles from the park, near the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. The beautiful mixed woodland is located in a secluded area, with parking available in the nearby town of Appleby. The woods are particularly spectacular in the spring when the bluebells are out. On a clear day, you can admire amazing views of the Pennines and Eden Valley.
